AI FOR THE REST OF US

Code of Conduct

Purpose

AI for the rest of us is committed to enabling an event at which everyone can participate in an inclusive, respectful and safe environment. All participants are expected to behave with integrity and respect towards all participants attending or involved with the event.

Scope / Applicability

The Code of Conduct applies to all AI for the rest of us events which includes talks, facilitated discussions, unconferences, meet-ups, social and networking events and any other event organised by AI for the rest of us.

The Code of Conduct applies to all participants at AI for the rest of us. Including attendees, speakers, sponsors, suppliers, volunteers, organisers and guests.

Reporting an Issue

Our team members are identifiable by their branded t-shirts and can always be approached. We will always have someone available and visible, at a welcome desk for example, and we also have a staffed phone and email address for reporting issues.

Our Standards & Values

Inclusiveness and respect is at the heart of what we do, and we invite you to help us make this event a place that is welcoming and respectful to all participants. Examples of behaviour that contributes to a positive environment include:

  • Demonstrating empathy and kindness toward other people;
  • Being respectful of differing opinions, viewpoints, and experiences;
  • Giving and gracefully accepting constructive feedback;
  • Respecting and adopting the correct pronouns, communication preferences and photography permissions of all attendees who have specified these. We implement these as coloured stickers and lanyards at our larger events;
  • Accepting responsibility and apologising to those affected by our mistakes, and learning from the experience;
  • Focusing on what is best not just for us as individuals, but for the overall community;
  • Don’t judge and make assumptions just because someone is different whether in some visible way or in their lived experience. We ask everybody to treat each other with respect.

Prohibited Conduct

Harassment includes offensive verbal comments related to gender, gender identity and expression, age, sexual orientation, disability, physical appearance, body size, race, ethnicity, religion (or lack thereof), technology choices, or the choice to wear a protective face mask.

Complaint Process

If you are being harassed, notice that someone else is being harassed, or have any other concerns, please contact a member of the staff immediately. Conference/event staff can be identified by branded t-shirts. If a participant engages in prohibited behaviour, the organisers may take any action they deem appropriate, including warning the offender or expulsion from the conference with no refund.
